We’re looking for a General Manager!

As  the manager of the Hub you will enjoy being part of the community, and have great ideas about using our amazing space! You’ll be brilliant at supporting our volunteers, and working alongside the assistant manager and the committee to keep our cafe, shop and art gallery busy, on track and well stocked!

Summary of job description

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the day-to-day management of Hallbankgate Hub. This role is vital in ensuring that the Hub provides a friendly welcoming environment that meets the needs of the community and the requirements of the elected Management Committee.

Key Tasks:

  • Ensuring that the Hub meets all legal requirements
  • Deliver a high standard of service
  • Oversee stock management for café and shop
  • Management  of staff in liaison with the Volunteer Coordinators and the Committee
  • Producing required reports to the Committee

Person Specification

You will be

  • An effective and positive communicator and good interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, confident, well-organised
  • Able to demonstrate professional standards of integrity and honesty
  • Have sound judgement on issues such as confidentiality, equality and diversity

Essential Requirements

  • Ability to produce written reports and deal with correspondence
  • Ability to understand the financial operation of the Hub’s business, including budgets, margins and sales tracking
  • Competent computer skills and willing to learn
  • Willingness to work flexibly, including some weekends

Desirable Requirements

  • Retail experience
  • Experience in managing budgets and a general understanding of VAT
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Some understanding of licensing and relevant Health & Safety regulations

Salary and terms of employment

  • Flexible working 25 hours per week
  • Salary £14 /hour, paid monthly around 28th of each month. (To be reviewed)
  • Permanent post
  • Annual Leave – 20 days paid holiday per year plus Bank Holidays (TOIL) on a pro-rata basis
  • Pension:  Hallbankgate Hub contributes to pension provision at 2% of salary.
