Hallbankgate Hub

out and about

“Very friendly and welcoming community shop and cafe.  Ideal for a stop if you’re passing through.”

Hallbankgate is a small village in Farlam Parish situated on the edge of the North Pennine Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 4 miles from the market town of Brampton, 13 miles from the city of Carlisle and a 10 minute drive from Hadrians Wall.

The village is well served with local amenities including a pub, school, garage, village hall and shop with cafe, library and visiting Post Office.  We are lucky to still have everything on our doorstep and are proud of our strong sense of community and togetherness.

Whether you are interested in walking, cycling, history or industrial archaeology – or just want a quiet break away from it all – Hallbankgate has it all and you can be assured of a very warm Cumbrian welcome.

Farlam Parish nestles between the beautiful Eden and Irthing valleys in the north eastern corner of Cumbria.  Its quiet country lanes and gently rolling hills make it an ideal day out for the recreational walker and cyclist.

The nearby fells with their rugged and wild landscapes and heather clad moorland full of tumbling streams are easily accessible and very quiet.  You can often spend a day out on the hills without seeing another soul.

In Spring, the RSPB Geltsdale reserve and surrounding fells are alive with the cry of curlews, lapwings, grouse and snipe and, if you’re lucky, you might see a pair of boxing brown hares or the flash of a red squirrel.

Romans and Reivers roamed these parts and there is much evidence of a rich industrial heritage along Lord Carlisle’s Railway footpath.
